Graduation Poems

What are some of our ideas for graduation poem topics? Can we find sources of inspiration online for graduation? What strategies do we think would work well for this type of poem? I suggested an Ode or a Metaphor style. Do you think this would work well, why or why not?

Memories are made never to be forgotten.
10 years hanging out with the same people,
You tend to have good memories with them.

Over 10 years you also become good friends with everyone,
Even though you will make new friends throughout life,
The friends you have now will be people that you will never forget.

10 years of elementary school with all the same friends/people
I will remember everyone no doubt,
But I will also make new friends,
That will hopefully be as good as the friends I have now.

Now it is the end and everyone is moving on,
We all must go our separate ways,
But I will never forget these memories that have been made.

  4. “Memories”

This is for all the times we have laughed,
    The inside jokes,
    The facebook pokes,
This is for all the times we have laughed,

This is for the many times we stood outside of Swift,
In the cold weather, the wind
    Fighting for our jackets,
This is for the many times we stood outside of Swift,

This is for the times we have fought,
For boys or mistakes that came across,
But we stuck together, no loss
This is for the times we have fought,

These memories will always keep us in one hand,
Because of what you have made me,
I want you to know I love you and thank you,
Thank you for all the great memories.

  5. Patricia, I like how your poem has lots of patterns in it. The way you used punctuation and word choices makes your personality come out in your writing!

  6. Patti and Bobby, I really enjoy your poems. I can't believe you're all about to graduate! So exciting! When is your graduation? If I'm not at work, I would love to come congratulate you all. I don't have to work on Friday, so I was thinking I would come visit during recess. Would that be okay? If a different time that day would be better, I could make that work, too. See you all soon! Hope all is well.

  9. The second poem that I wrote is about doing things that you think are right and are going to help you in life because anyone might face difficult situations that will hold a person back from doing what they want.
