Welcome to Swift School's Class of 2010 Poetry Blog!
The 8th Grade Graduating Class of 2010 is excited about writing and reading poetry.
This blog is a tool we are using for class discussion and deepening our understanding about poems. Please feel free to post a response to questions, or comments made by our student bloggers.
We are experiementing with blogging as an interactive tool for sharing our poetry reading, responses to poems, and poetry writing.
Below are some questions to get us started:
1. What is one of your favorite poems, or favorite genres of poetry?
2. We have studied Haiku Poetry. Which of the "Haiku for the Olympics" poems on page 864, do you like best? Why?
3. Why do we think author's use alliteration in their poems or writing? In the poem Silver by, Walter de la Mare (Page 868) What examples of alliteration do you see? How does this contribute to the mood of the poem?
My favorite genre for poetry is emotion or nature. This many ways gives me inspiration to write my own poems.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite type of genre is about life. Those seem the most realistic. From life poems you can learn alot and apply it to your own life.

The best type is haiku as you can express so much in so little. It is a good poem for beginners as it doesn't have to rhyme and is 3 lines only. It requiers talent to express all your feelings in 3 lines.

my favorite poem is Annabell Lee by Edgar Allen Poe -Melii :)
ReplyDeleteI also like Annabell Lee Melita, it seems to tell a story. I like narrative poems! They are highly descriptive stories that are easy to read.
ReplyDeleteI like Shel Silverstein poems, as they seem to amuse me. Basically, fiction poems are my favorite type of poetry genre. Haikus are short and simple, and they are also great.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite type of genre is the one about nature.I believe that nature is a big part of our life and whenever we read about it,we feel relaxed instantly.
ReplyDeleteI love haiku poems because you get to express your feelings toward someone or something and I love that you have to be careful to follow the rule 5,7,5 syllables

ReplyDeleteI like all kinds of poems, I can't just choose from one because all genres of poems give you a chance to express yourself in different forms, I especially enjoy reading poems with a lot of deep thought and meaning behind them such as poems with emotions or the usage of metaphors/similies. (: ♥

ReplyDeletePersonally, I enjoy Haiku poetry.They are fun to make and also to read.They challange people and could be written about anything.-Andrada
ReplyDeleteMy favorite types of poems are freestyle poems because it doesn't limit what you can write and because it expresses the emotions that you feel in any words and anyway you want. I also like haiku because like kunal says it takes a lot of talent to express your emotions in 3 lines and because it's a shorter way to express what you are thinking.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of poem would have to be a haiku, for the way they can describe many different things, for example nature, and still only be a limtied amount of syllables
ReplyDelete1.) One of my favorite poem is the Haiku poem because it requires the use of imaginations, it makes the writer think out of the box to create the Haiku poem. It also requires ones understanding of syllables to create an Haiku.

My favorite types of poetry is Free Style. It really give authors chances to write anything they want and to express their feelings. They can make it rhyme, short, long, happy, sad, anything your heart desires!! =]

I agree with David that I like poems about emotions because I think sometimes it is hard to describe emotions, but poems can help with that.
