The Secret Heart by, Robert Coffin uses symbols to show feelings and reactions. Many of our bloggers have talked about poems they enjoyed and symbols that helped us communicate messages. The Ode poem was one poem in which we used symbols to represent our topic.

In the poem you can find symbols of love and careness because the father checks on his son and cares that he is resting. That shows he cares and loves him.

The glow might have ment the love the father gave to the son.
One symbol that was used was the matchstick's fire in the shape of a heart to symbolize the love the father has towards the son

ReplyDeleteOverall, the poem was excellent and I really enjoyed reading it. To me, the ending seemed depressing.
ReplyDeleteA symbol in the poem is the heart itself, in which it symbolizes the father's love.
In today's world, love is important to help us live on and so is friendship. Money is not everything as people can still live an unjoyful life even with it. Loce helps us live on.

In daily life , we use many symbols in order to represent something or react to something.As an example, we make a heart by curving our hands, in order to show love for something.Even waving is a sign of symbolism, because a wave of the hand either means saying goodbye or hello.

I notice that the author uses a simile when he says " With his great hands full of fire " , I believe it shows that the author is expressing love and care for his son. :D

the strong glow that the match makes represents the fathers love for his son, which means that boys father loves him alot.
ReplyDeleteBasically,, this poem symbolizes the love the father has for his son. They use alot of 'show not tell' to describe what is happening in the store. Doing so,, they made the whole poem a whole lot more vivid and intresting. For example;

And then the secret heart went out.
But it shone long enough for one
To know that hands held up the sun."
I believe this symbolizes that even though his father had pasted away; His father's love was so deep and strong that it bond to last a life time for that young little boy. But of course,, People have different opinions and perspective on these specific lines. What do YOU think it meant??. =].

ReplyDeleteThe symbol being used in The Secret Heart is love through your heart, which is what the father tried showing through this story. It also showed readers how the father truly felt about his son, that he cared for him. Symbols we can find today can be seen in signs like ☮ or ♥ which stand for peace and love.
ReplyDelete-He used symbols like how "the boy awakened to a light". This showed that the boy that night saw the love his father had for him and "a heart that gave out such a glow" this means that he saw how much his father loved which was the glow.

ReplyDeleteI think the herat symbol is being used because in the story it shows the luv the father has for his son and i think when people think of love they think of hearts and stars so when i read the story hearts snd stars are the first symbols that come to my mind.
